Neck pain. Two words that have likely caused you a lot of trouble and hardship in your life. If you’ve felt limited, frustrated, or hopeless about your neck pain, you are not alone. Millions of people suffer from neck pain every day; in fact it’s one of the most common health complaints people have. In my practice I have helped numerous people dealing with neck pain, and in this post you will find 3 natural ways to help relieve it. Here are three natural ways that can be very helpful dealing with pains in the neck.

1. Ice

I know a lot of people reach for the heat pack when things start to ache, but in most cases ice is actually more effective. Here is one really great way to ice the neck. Take a towel and fold it in half (length-wise). Then roll the towel from top to bottom, so that it is a tube/cylinder. Now take your flexible ice pack and place it over this rolled up towel. Place the ice towel on a flat surface, and lie on your back so that the ice roll fits into the natural curve of your neck. Perform for 15 minutes, 2-3 times per day. Always place some sort of barrier between your skin and ice packs, and always take a 2o minute break after each 15-20 minute ice session. This is most effective in the first 48 hours after a new injury.

2. Epsom salt

This is an old remedy you may have heard about from grandparents, but it actually works! Few people realize that Epsom salt is actually a form of Magnesium, and can be very effective in reducing inflammation. You can find it at most grocery and drug stores. They even make Epsom salt that is mixed with essential oils, which adds the added benefit of aromatherapy to this treatment. The easy way to use it is to just add 1-2 cups to a warm bath, and then soak for 15-30 minutes in the Epsom bath. As a bonus it is good for the skin as well. You could also soak a towel in the Epsom salt/warm water combo and then apply it to your neck.

3. Chiropractic Care

Our Cedar Rapids Chiropractic clinic has treated numerous neck pain cases. We see a patient with neck pain likely every single day. Most patients are surprised with how much better they feel in a very short period of time. Chiropractic has been show to be both effective and safe. We have two different techniques we utilize to adjust the neck, depending on your condition. The technique that sets us apart from other chiropractors though is our specific prone technique. This technique allows us to adjust the cervical spine without any rotation.
