Logan Jenkins • Mar 07, 2022

There are few things that are as annoying and tedious to deal with daily than chronic pain. Waking up with aches and pains, going about your day with chronic pain, and lying down in bed with chronic pain can take its toll on even the strongest minded people, and can make you want to do nothing forever. But chronic pain doesn’t have to be a major component of your life if you don’t want it to be. If you need any more motivation to have your chronic pain looked at by a doctor, here are three ways that chronic pain can disrupt your life in major ways.

Limits Your Work Opportunities

The first way that chronic pain can disrupt your life is by limiting your work opportunities in life. To make a living, you are going to need to work, and typically you will need to work at least till the age of 65, or perhaps longer, and in some cases much longer. But chronic pain can make all sorts of work difficult or impossible, from heavy lifting and physical labor to even simple things like desk jobs that require you to sit for long periods of time, or jobs that require you to walk, bend over, or perform any other physical activity.

Affects Your Sleep

Chronic pain can also disrupt your life by affecting your sleep, leaving you with less restful, shorter, and less deep sleep. Chronic pain can make you uncomfortable when trying to relax in bed, and lead to restless nights spent staring at the ceiling waiting for sleep. Some positions can help with back pain while you sleep. If you suffer from chronic back pain, you may want to try sleeping on your side with a pillow between your knees to decrease some of the pressure on your back.

Makes Socializing Difficult

The final way that chronic pain can disrupt your life is by making socializing difficult or impossible. Having a social life, with friends and family you care for is essential for having proper mental health and wellbeing. But chronic pain can make it difficult or impossible for you to get out and about to socialize. Many socializing activities require some amount of movement which can be difficult for you if you suffer from chronic pain.

Living with chronic pain can be incredibly detrimental to living the kind of life that you want to have. There are all sorts of ways that chronic pain disrupts your daily life, and it should be treated to get you back on track. Consider these three disruptions that chronic pain can cause and seek treatment to get control of your life back from your chronic pain.
