I Was In An Accident: What Can A Chiropractor Do For Me?

Dotcom Design • Apr 16, 2020

The impacts of an automobile accident can leave your body pretty banged up. At the very least you are going to be feeling very sore. However, if the pain lingers longer than normal, you may be experiencing something worse than aggravated muscle tissue. If this is what you are experiencing, you should consider going to see a chiropractor. Chiropractor can diagnose and treat any misalignments in your joints that have occurred as a result of your accident. This treatment will serve you well on the road to recovery.

Commonly Treated Injuries

Out of all of the injuries commonly suffered from being in a car accident, whiplash is considered the most common. Whiplash is an injury to the neck that can occur when the neck is jerked back and forth as is common in a car crash. Another common injury is a back injury, particularly in the lower back. You can sustain serious damage to your vertebrae in a crash. This will result in spine pain.

Other injuries that a chiropractor can treat include the following:

  • Pinched Nerves
  • Coccydynia
  • Sciatica
  • Degenerative Disc Disorder
  • Cerviogenic headache
  • Subluxation
  • Spinal osteoarthritis
  • Tendonitis

Frequently Used Therapies

A chiropractor can use a lot of different techniques to address your pain. Your chiropractor will probably plan to use multiple techniques to give the best treatment possible. Be sure to discuss this plan with him in order to ensure that you are comfortable with the planned treatments. The following are just a few of the therapies chiropractors employ.

  • Therapeutic Exercise: These exercises will strengthen damaged muscles, decrease pain, prevent deterioration, and increase range of motion.
  • Therapeutic Stretches: Helps prevent scar tissue from forming
  • Spinal Traction: reduces disc decompression, reduced nerve root pressured, reduces pain
  • Soft Tissue Manual Therapy: Targeted massage techniques
  • Muscle Stimulation: stimulates muscles through electrical pulses
  • Ice and Heat: Increases blood circulation, reduces swelling, and controls pain.

When to Go

Should you go to the chiropractor no matter what? Not necessarily. If you are not feeling any symptoms, then there is no need. If you are just feeling sore, you may not need to go, but it wouldn’t hurt. You can wait a little while to see how you feel. But don’t wait too long, insurance companies don’t like to cover for treatments that occur long after the accident. If you are feeling pain in your joints, you should set up an appointment as soon as possible.

Untreated pain can quickly become debilitating. Your conditions can get worse over time, so it is best to seek treatment now. Increase your quality of life by reaching out to medical professionals that can help you.
